"When you hear 'landscape,' you think of exterior lighting, but in this case we're talking about landscaping your room or your space," says Mical Secter, showroom manager at Total Lighting Sales. "If you have an open space … sometimes you don't want to define where the table needs to be. Because if you're entertaining, you're going to be adding leaves to the table, and maybe that fixture will no longer be over the right place. "Landscape-oriented lighting is going to be closer to the ceiling, like a semi-flush. It could hang down like a pendant, but it's going to be more linear, and longer, and it would extend into both areas of the space. It could be centred in an open-concept dining room, but it might not necessarily be right over the table. So it allows you a lot of flexibility as to the placement of your furniture." Not surprisingly, the concept of flexibility is closely linked to another fast-rising trend — that of integrated LED, in which the light source is built into the fixture itself. WHEN YOU HEAR 'LANDSCAPE,' YOU THINK OF EXTERIOR LIGHTING, BUT IN THIS CASE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT LANDSCAPING YOUR ROOM OR YOUR SPACE. Cont'd on page 102 Parade of Homes Spring 2019 101
