POH concrete and marble bases, fixtures and accents in soft golds and brass — a few of the more prevalent are actually holdovers from recent years. For instance, more than a decade after TV's Mad Men re-piqued interest in mid-century modern, our love affair with the movement shows no sign of losing steam. As trends go, this one's pretty pervasive — evident in living rooms, offices, restaurants and even TV talk-show sets — so if you're looking for fixtures that pair well with a cherished Eames chair or retro bar cart, well, you can't go wrong with the classics. "Globes, globes and more globes," says Secter, of the latest spin on MCM. "Small, medium and large — mercury, clear, frosted or opal. Some have textures on them — they've been experimenting a lot more with different types of glass to achieve different looks … It could be on a single bar with globes hanging from it, or it could be multiple globes hanging from thin wires." Demare notes that vintage lamps and cages also remain very much in vogue, in black, gold, mixed metals and even pastels. Another retro-inspired trend that's still gaining momentum, the omnipresent Edison bulb proves we haven't yet had our fill of exposed filaments. The Edison — with its oblong silhouette and looping, squirrel-cage filament — is now available in an array of shapes and sizes, perfect for industrial design schemes and spaces that call for a warm, candle-like glow. "It's really exploded — there's probably a hundred different shapes out there," says Demare. And of course, Edisons are now available in LED form — a more eco-friendly alternative to their less energy efficient counterparts — though as Demare points out, there are noticeable differences between the two. "Some people still find the LED (versions) really glare-y," she says. "Because it's clear and because it's got a long, decorative filament, the incandescent is much easier to look at." www.huntingtonhomes.com SHOW HOME: 356 Willow Creek Rd in Bridgwater Trails Parade Hours: Mon – Thurs 3 – 8 pm Sat – Sun 12 – 6 pm 204-949-3870 B u i l t L i k e N o O t h e r
