"You will notice fingerprints and water
spots a little bit quicker with the matte
black, but (the finish) is easy to wipe off."
Homeowners are also incorporating mixed
metals rather than matching fixtures.
"The faucets will be in one finish and the
lighting and knobs in another," Petroff
says. "We're seeing some warmer tones in
fixtures. Biscuit fixtures go well with gold
faucets."
When adopting a new look, Petroff
recommends starting small.
"It's best to introduce new trends in a
way that's fairly easy and cost-effective to
change, while going for a more timeless
look for stuff that's going to be around for
a while," he says.
Even those who opt for bold statement
pieces tend to stick with light, neutral
shades in cabinets, walls and flooring.
Easy-to-clean wall-hung vanities and toilets
have maintained their appeal, and Petroff
is seeing more demand for integrated
bidet toilet seats.
"Integrated bidet seats don't take up
any more space. With our population
becoming diverse, more people are
looking for that functionality."
Safety features such as grab bars are also
increasingly popular, and they're not just
for older homeowners.
