"Bedding is something you can change easier
than repainting the whole space," she says.
Even if you compromise on the pricier items,
kids can and should still have plenty of say
when it comes to their room. Let them choose
a fun bedspread, pillows and wall art that
suits their style.
"If you're looking for ideas of what to use for
artwork, why not use their own?" Kosman
says. Display your little Picasso's work on
clips attached to a cable system suspended from the wall or
ceiling. Then he can switch out his artwork as he chooses.
You can also let them choose which keepsakes to display on
one or two floating shelves — be it their new soccer trophy
or a superhero sticker they got from the dentist — and when
they want to add new ones, they can put the old ones into a
dedicated box in the closet.
"Kids come with a lot of trinkets and trophies, so it's a matter
of how do you find that happy medium?" says Kosman, again
emphasizing the mental state of calm that comes with having a
place for everything — no matter how old you are.
"I really do think kids benefit from a tidy space."
