"It's been super popular. They're wonderful homes; we've had a lot of first-time buyers, we've had a lot of downsizers and people who want to be in that range," Vasko says. The Craftsman-style homes have acres of curb appeal, with optional garages at the rear that help to create a family- friendly streetscape up front. And Ventura tweaked the typical condo model to keep costs down and let buyers add personal character to their homes. While modest condo fees cover management, maintenance of some greenspace and snow removal on roads, homeowners are responsible for their own property. "That means you can build your deck and have a fire pit and have a little play structure. You can have your garden and then along with that you still have to cut your grass and shovel your snow because it is very much a single-family aspect." Vasko, who has lived in La Salle for 10 years, says crossing the bridge into town gives him the same feeling as arriving at the lake — instant decompression. "It's a great place, and a lot of people are moving out to La Salle as an option because there are so many changes in the city, and it's grown right out to the Perimeter anyway."
