Northeast Community Spotlight NorthEast Neighbourhoods: Bridgewood Estates Canterbury Park Dugald Wheatland Park Kildonan Green Oakbank Aspen Lakes Oakbank Crystal Lakes Park City Pritchard Farms Southlands Village People often live in the northeast their whole life. Theyre fully entrenched >> Family-friendly communities, a range of residential options, and easy access to the lake its no surprise the citys northeast remains such a popular draw for new home buyers. The area is held in high esteem by longtime residents, proof that once youve fallen for the considerable charms of neighbourhoods like North Kildonan, Elmwood, East St. Paul and Transcona, its hard to think of anywhere else as home. Its a highly sought-after residential area, says realtor Evald Frederiksen, himself a long-time resident. People often live in the northeast their whole life. Its not like its a stop for them. Theyre fully entrenched. The areas reputation for residential convenience and amenities, coupled with its commitment to family lifestyles and kid-friendly considerations, continues to inspire new developments offering everything from entry-level to luxury homes. Bronx Park Community Centre on Henderson Highway is handy for ice hockey and soccer teams, and the recently renovated facility provides a host of social and recreation services. Nearby, the Clara Hughes Recreation Park is under construction at the site of the former Kelvin Community Centre. The park named for the Olympic cyclist and speedskater will have new facilities for skating, skateboarding, basketball and even tobogganing, along with a playground. And with summer on the way, the areas proximity to cabin country and beautiful Birds Hill Provincial Park should help its stock rise even further, as should the continued interest in residential expansion shown by developers and home buyers alike. The northeast really has got a little bit of everything, says Eric Vogan, Land Development Manager at Qualico Communities, which is currently involved with three developments in the area. Theres a broad range of value out there, and certainly there is product for a broad range of appetites. The area is jam-packed with retail amenities, including shopping mecca Kildonan Place and the big-box clusters along the Regent Avenue corridor, and affords quick access to Concordia Hospital and a network of quality schools. Just outside the city limits, you can mix country comfort with the serenity of the suburbs in developments springing up in the communities of Oakbank and Dugald. Many of the new neighbourhoods inside the city aim to strike a similar balance between urban and rural living among them, Qualicos Canterbury Park, nestled near the east end of the perimeter off Ravenhurst Street at Dugald Road.
