MAY 16, 2019 MANITOBA CAMPING ASSOCIATION 3 Camp Koinonia B O I S S E V A I N Camp Assiniboia H E A D I N G L E Y Camps Meaning with Summer 2019 YOUTH CAMPS & FAMILY CAMPS REGISTRATION FORMS: LUTHERVILLAGE.CA SUMMER - Camp (807) 543-4052 (204) 898-4052 e: lv@luthervillage.ca @LutherVillageCamp @luthervillager "The camps are all so unique but there's also some sameness in the sense of community, as well as in the new experiences and the increasing self-confidence," she said. "I know of kids who went to camp together when they were younger and they are still the best of friends. They learn how to respect the people in their cabin who they're living with and doing activities with. There are counsellors who are excellent role models to help them learn how to succeed." Some camps get creative with their offerings, which often reflect activities that are on trend in the community. "I heard that a couple camps are creating escape rooms for the kids to do as an activity," Scherger said. "There's so much teamwork involved, and it could also be a great leadership activity for staff." Scherger has been involved in camps for the majority of her life and has gained a first-hand understanding of the benefits. "For every person who goes to camp, their life is changed. Whether it's a staff member, a volunteer or a camper, the sense of community at camp is huge. You can't compare it to school or other clubs that kids might belong to," she said. "At camp, they're living with each other, working with each other and sharing new experiences with each other. For many kids, those experiences wouldn't be available without the funding of the Sunshine Fund. It makes such an impact." ● SUNSHINE FUND CELEBRATES FOUR DECADES The Manitoba Camping Association has been sending kids to camp through the Winnipeg Free Press Sunshine Fund for 40 years. To mark the anniversary, the MCA is planning something for the fall and we need your help. Do you know someone who benefitted from the Sunshine Fund when they were younger and are now in a place in their life where they want to give back? Contact Rick Scherger at the MCA office at 204-293-7339 or rickscherger@manitobacamping.ca. We would love to hear from you. SOLID CAMP FOUNDATION Endowments are collections of gifts. When you donate to an endowment fund, your gift is pooled and permanently invested with other gifts, and a portion of the annual earnings is granted. Since the capital is never spent, your gift keeps giving back in perpetuity. When you make a gift to the Sunshine Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation, you're helping send kids to camp. Without your support, these young people probably wouldn't get to experience the joy of summer camp. Gifts to this fund are pooled and permanently invested, so your generosity will continue to support young people in our community forever. The Winnipeg Foundation is a community foundation: an independent, public organization supported by people from all walks of life. Gifts are pooled and invested, and the annual earnings are granted to charities. Since the capital is never spent, your gift keeps giving — For Good. Forever. The Winnipeg Foundation is a permanent, sustainable and trusted way of helping in an uncertain world. Through their gifts, donors are tackling some of our community's biggest challenges, fostering innovation and providing a strong foundation for a future we can only imagine.
