The rocky outcrops of the Canadian Shield provide the backdrop for this getaway. Spend some time on the water, in the wilderness and on the golf course. Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, learn and laugh as you explore eastern Manitoba. If you'd rather rough it, camping is always an option. Remember to book ahead with Manitoba Parks. Once settled, explore the park in a canoe or kayak. The Caddy Lake Canoe Route offers 180 km of lakes, rivers and portages that take you through the entire Whiteshell terrain. Thrill-seekers can ride personal watercrafts to get hearts racing. For a true Manitoba experience, make sure you've packed your rod and reel. Catch your dinner and cook it on a campfire under the stars. DAY 2 Hit the links early — tee off at the Falcon Lake or Pinawa Golf Course. After your round, stay for lunch at the clubhouse or venture into the townsite. In the afternoon, stop at the Alfred Hole Goose Sanctuary — you're in for a real treat if it's migration season — in May see goslings up close and from late August until Thanksgiving see hundreds of geese getting ready to head south for the winter. End the day with a great homestyle meal at a picturesque log cabin restaurant in the West Hawk Lake townsite. DAY 3 The Whiteshell is home to many different varieties of animals and birds. Bring binoculars and hike along a trail. Pack a lunch and try the 4-km hike to Rainbow Falls. This beautiful spot is a popular stopping place for photography enthusiasts. Spend your afternoon on a horseback adventure at Falcon Beach Ranch, where experienced guides will escort you on the trail through the forest.
