>> Prairie Dog Central — Travel
to yesteryear aboard a vintage
turn-of-the-century steam train,
a d r e n a l i n e
while relaxing in fully restored
coaches built between 1901 and
1913. Offering weekend excursions
through the summer and fall, the
Prairie Dog runs iconic Steam
Engine No. 3 from Inkster Junction
in Winnipeg to scenic Grosse Isle.
The ride passes through picturesque
prairie at a leisurely 25 kilometres an
hour, and at the end of the line, you
can enjoy hot dogs and homemade
pastries, view antique autos and
cruise the petting zoo. Best of all, the
railway runs on volunteer power
— it's staffed by members of the
non-profit Vintage Locomotive
Prairie Dog Central
Society. For schedules, see
www.pdcrailway.com.
