Some visitors to the Parade of Homes
are looking for inspiration for their
own home, and some are just looking
to see how builders are incorporating
the latest trends and materials into
show homes. Here are five good ideas
we're seeing in 2021:
• One welcome trend in great rooms? TV sets
displayed at a comfortable viewing height, instead
of at neck-craning altitudes above fireplaces.
• In the kitchen, microwave ovens are slowly moving
away from islands and appearing at the right
height in wall niches.
• Mixed materials: Glossy cabinetry with matte
hardware, dark islands and lower cabinets with
white uppers.
• Tray ceilings are coming into their own, adding
interest and extra ceiling height in great rooms and
dining rooms.
• Glam en suites: Some builders are taking a shine
to gold, bronze and chrome bath and lighting
fixtures. But matte black is still the No. 1 choice for
fixtures in frameless glass walk-in showers.
