or some reason, few people think of
golf as being a particularly demanding
sport.
Consequently, when the season starts,
many golfers think nothing of flying out to
the driving range to knock six months of
rust off by pounding out a bucket or two
of balls.
That's a dangerous thing to do, says Brian
Buffie, a physiotherapist who specializes
in golf-specific training at Sport Manitoba.
"Think about what you're doing for a
moment," says Buffie, a former University
of Manitoba golf team member whose
Titleist Performance Institute (TPI)
certification provides him with in-depth
knowledge of the demands of the golf
swing. "Basically, you're going from doing
nothing to swinging a golf club. All the
