2 Note that our elves feel bad that they could not include all the wonderful local products and services in this supplement. So, if you have a favourite that you feel belongs on the Local Nice List, head to our Free Press Instagram and tag the company, product or service with #LocalNiceList to share with others! It's better to give local and RECEIVE GUESTS! By Charlene Adam ou've likely heard that it's be er to give than to receive. After a couple of years of heavy online shopping and awkward home video parties, we discovered something — we miss each other! The holidays without friends and family are enough to make Scrooge hum a festive song and long for yuletide joy. It is the reason most now feel that the best thing to give and receive is time with family and friends. Time spent together does not have to be elaborate. You can simply gather at The Exchange District to discover great gift ideas, enjoy a lovely meal or just soak up joyful music and a holiday atmosphere. Being able to venture out with friends and family is gift alone. Add in a concert or Moose game and that present can't be beat! As far as spending quality time together goes, let's face it, date nights have eroded into charcuterie boards and Netflix binging. Planning a date night — in advance — is truly a thoughtful present. For your special someone who misses shows and musical performances, consider Shen Yun. It takes the audience on a journey through thousands of years of the Chinese culture. Talented traditional dancers, impressive sets and a live western-style orchestra playing traditional-style music sounds simply stunning. If your special someone is a culinary adventurist, Frontiers North offers the most exciting Manitoba pop-up restaurant experience. Imagine dining on the frozen Churchill River with a view of the aurora borealis as your backdrop! It will be an experience of a lifetime! For those of us heading somewhere closer to home, don't forget the host gifts. Whether you head to a wine store, Delta 9 or one of the fantastic local companies mentioned in this guide, a key advantage you'll discover in shopping local is service. Now that host gifts have been addressed, let's explore the key reason for the Local Gift Guide itself. The Free Press is happy to support local businesses, Manitoba made products, locally sourced items and those who support good causes with their work. To investigate these wonderful local products and services, the Free Press tasked our shopping elves to discover gift ideas that fulfill one or more of these criteria for you. (By the way — best job ever!) No doubt, once you've read this guide, you'll agree that it's be er to give local and receive guests! Y 2
