And there are several factors, including inflation, behind a growing demand for multi-generational homes. Sharing a home gives younger parents and retired couples greater combined buying power, and allows for more flexible budgets in general. Vassallo says opting for a multi- generational home can give younger couples more financial breathing room, and older couples get more freedom to pursue retirement goals, such as travel.
