After a two-year parade hiatus due to COVID-19, the jolly elf and all his friends will travel down Portage Avenue bringing an abundance of good cheer back to the streets. The parade begins at Portage and Main, heads west on Portage Avenue, turns south on Memorial, and ends at York Avenue. With an earlier start, the parade is sure to be a hit with young and old. "Manitoba Hydro is always delighted to be involved in this signature event," said Manitoba Hydro representative Gary Shingleton. "This year we're partnering with the Christmas Cheer Board and hosting Santa's Workshop at Manitoba Hydro Place before the parade. More than 100 young guests from various inner city area community organizations will join us for a holiday experience like no other, and then they'll head out to watch the parade from specially designated VIP seating." In addition to Santa's Workshop, Manitoba Hydro is also once again hosting a block party. "The block party is a favourite with so many," said Gary. "It's a friendly event with parade attendees from the same block getting together to play games and be entertained about an hour before the parade starts and while they wait for Santa to arrive." Christmas Cheer Board Executive Director Shawna Bell echoes the festive sentiment surrounding the unrivalled joy of the day. "The spirit of the season really shines during the Manitoba Hydro Santa Claus Parade, and we couldn't be more pleased to partner with Manitoba Hydro during this high energy event. "This year we're asking all attending the parade to bring new, unwrapped toys and non-perishable food. Manitoba Hydro employees walking alongside the Manitoba Hydro Employee float will gladly collect your generous donations, ensuring the magic of one day lasts until the big day." Christmas Cheer Board donations can also be dropped off at Manitoba Hydro Place, 360 Portage Avenue between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., November 19.
