LANDSCAPING
POLLINATOR-FRIENDLY
MANITOBANS
How to help the birds,
bees and butterflies
By Sherry Kaniuga
>> EVERYBODY WANTS their yard to look
attractive, and landscaping with colourful flowering plants
goes a long way. But it also comes with a bonus side effect
— you get to play a role in supporting the environment,
the economy and food production by attracting pollinators.
Pollinators — including insects like bees, butterflies and
flies, along with birds such as hummingbirds — are like
little couriers that deliver pollen from one flower to another,
fertilizing plants so they can produce fruit and seeds.
