Overlooking the street, its elevated status creates a
sense of seclusion, but without too much separation
from the rest of the family.
"Parents like to have that retreat, and the kids are
only half a flight away," Curtis says.
Clients also like the dropped foyer. With entryways
off the covered landing and the garage, it's seven
steps below the main floor. That means there's room
for larger windows in the lower level, which can be
finished with a fourth bedroom, third bathroom and
rec room.
