CELEBRATING OUR 25TH ANNIVERSARY — Cont'd from page 19 Jaquet says kitchens are also becoming more of a statement. Range hoods and lighting fixtures have artistic merit, and while open- concept homes with islands don't have separate dining rooms, they do have larger eating areas. Look down and you'll see laminate and luxury vinyl plank flooring instead of plain old vinyl. Look up, and you'll see all sorts of decorative elements on ceilings. In recent years, dropped foyers or tallish porches have become common, since they allow for larger basement windows. Private side entrances are popular in multi-generational homes with basement suites, along with flexible main-floor bonus rooms that work as bedrooms or home offices. It's impossible to predict what's in store for builders over the next 25 years, but Jaquet notes one thing that never changes. "We need to always react to what the market is asking for."
