"Black has been around for a while now and I don't see it fading away." The brushed gold is more expensive but it's an eye-catcher. "The gold just pops, especially with royal blue or even the darker blues and darker grey vanities," Proteau says. That same matte black and brushed gold for the faucets is starting to trend into shower doors as well. White faucets are also gaining popu- larity as well. "Combination finishes are getting more popular," Proteau says, "so now you're seeing black with a little bit of gold or matte black with some silver coming in as well." Betty Wieland is a showroom consul- tant at Robinson Bath (robinsonco.ca) and she sees clients wanting a little adventure in their choices. "People are having a little bit of fun with powder rooms because it's a spot where their guests can come in and see it. And because it's a small space, it's not a huge investment," Wieland says. "It creates a little something different — a little excitement in that space — and depending on the location of the powder room relative to the kitchen, they might try to marry the colours together as far as the faucets and the finish goes." Wieland says faucets feature clean contemporary lines that blend from new to "vintage." "You have a modern transitional look blending the clean lines of the con- temporary style with a bit of the old school Victorian and some Edwardian styling," Wieland says. "It's that very soft traditional kind of gooseneck, and it looks great in brasses and golds. People are blending that with a modern-looking sink and tub, and there is always something for every taste and every price point."
