lizabeth Rosenberg,
vice-president of operations
at The Accurate Technology
Group (www.accurategroup.
ca), says security includes environ-
mental safety as well, and where there
is smoke — or water — there is tech.
"Homeowners can install monitored
smoke detectors, which, if triggered, will
have the monitoring station dispatch the
fire department," Rosenberg says.
Water sensors can be deployed to
detect sump pit failure or anywhere
there is a water source such as a
fridge, washing machine, hot water
tank or dishwasher.
"There is a device called a 'water
cop,' which can shut off your water
at the main when you arm the alarm,"
she says.
"Should you have any pipes break,
you would only have the ambient wa-
ter in the home rather than the water
continually running until you came
home to discover it."
Low-temperature sensors can detect
furnace failure, and there are other
safety devices like panic fobs and
medical alert fobs.
Home security is more than just keeping your posses-
sions under lock and key. It's taking proactive steps
to ensure the well-being and safety of family, pets and
property from any number of concerns. Furthermore,
monitored protection can lower insurance premiums.
