oday, backsplashes are
as much a part of esthetic
kitchen design as they are
functional. Modern back-
splashes range from just
a few inches all the way to the ceiling
and can blend in as a continuation of
your countertop or be personalized
and eye-catching.
Sherri Russell, interior design tech-
nologist and kitchen designer for
Kitchen Craft, explains current trends
and what to consider when choosing
a backsplash.
Current backsplash trends include
continuing a quartz or porcelain coun-
tertop up the wall, adding interesting
shapes such as fish scales or hexa-
gons or contrasting your backsplash
with your cabinetry.
Another approach is to opt for a
glazed or polished finish instead of
matte. "Moody nature" and colour
contrasts are some upcoming trends,
and green is especially popular right
now, according to Russell.
