your home… your way Now is a great time to build! One of the key benefits to buying an MHBA member new built home is that you can choose exactly what you want. Your home... Your way. #paradeofhomesmb www.homebuilders.mb.ca FALL 2023 PARADE of HOMES 43 "Welcome to the family." More than just the phrase Hearth Homes uses to greet visitors to their web- site, those four words tell the story of the custom homebuilder's roots. Hearth Homes was born nearly 30 years ago after Rob and Nancy Wick- strom moved their growing family to Manitoba from B.C. and began building custom homes with a welcoming feel out of their home office. While Hearth Homes now has a proper office and dedicated show homes, it's still a family affair. About nine years ago, Nan- cy handed the reins over to son Adam, now Hearth Homes' finance director, while his brother Matt stepped into dad Rob's role as operations director. The family connections don't end there — Ad- am's partner Ryan Miller is the design and marketing co-ordinator. Although the rest of the staff aren't related, they're treated like family too. "I'm told my grandma suggested the name Hearth Homes. It represents warmth and a focal point," Adam says, "and that's the kind of home we've al- ways designed." The younger Wickstroms have brought modern touches to both the business and the designs while maintaining Hearth Homes' well-loved design features and focus on relationships. "Our brand is all about a certain look and feel that has become recognizable," Ryan says. "Our homes are rustic and welcoming, and we use things like hard- woods and textured stone to create that warm, inviting feel." Hearth Homes has also been building assisted living homes for St. Amant and Pulford Community Living Services, which inspired updated "future-proofing" design elements that focus on accessibil- ity and adaptation to homeowners' needs as they age. Making sure all clients are included in the building process from start to finish and beyond makes a big difference, Adam says. "Communication is so important," he says. "We know it's a huge investment and a very personal process for our cli- ents, so we aim to take care of them and let them know what's going on with their house at all times." It's clearly working, since most of their clients are referrals or repeat customers. "A lot of our clients, if not all of them, will say they felt they were part of a family that helped guide them through the process," Ryan adds. "We know we're on the right track when they send people our way."
