SPRING 2024 PARADE
of

deputy ministers from every prov-
ince and territory. They set policy
direction, so now government is
directly involved in code develop-
ment. When codes come out, hope-
fully they get adopted fairly quickly
because we're part of that process,"
he said.
"That agreement also established
that the 2020 codes were adopted
within 24 months and that any
future model code is adopted within
18 months. So when the 2025 codes
are released, every province and
territory has a commitment to adopt
it within 18 months."
The Manitoba Home Builders'
Association is a national partner
that participates in an advisory
committee to this board. Kasprick
encourages others to get involved
and educated as well.
"The national codes have public
consultations four times per year.
We're driving people to be part of
the process at the national level
when it's being developed," he says.
"That way, when it's published, it's
an easy transition for provinces to
adopt it. After it's published, it's very
hard for provinces to make changes
because that process has already
happened — so be a part of it."
