112 PARADE of HOMES SPRING 2024 Incorporate a bench that serves a dual purpose for seating and for storage. Multi-use storage Assign cubbies to your kids to organize their own space. Cute cubbies Mudrooms cont. SUBMITTED PHOTOS No matter the size, the key elements to any mudroom should include a place to sit, hooks to hang coats or jackets, and a storage bin or basket. In many cases, entrances have been developed into mudrooms, which provide a practical and sometimes esthetic welcoming. These dedi- cated spaces allow people to remove their muddy boots and hang up their outerwear before entering other areas of homes. "For the mudroom, it really comes down to having a little more space than a spot where your shoes may be jammed in front of the door and coats may be pouring out of your closets," says Spencer Curtis, president of Hilton Homes and chair of the Manitoba Home Builders' Association. While mudrooms have been around on farms for years, many have now become more elaborate creations in all locales. "Life is just better when it feels peaceful when you arrive home, right?" Curtis says. "That means you're looking at a nice, orderly storage space with cubbies for your kids to tuck their shoes away. Each kid gets their own little space, and they can get to participate in being organized."
