CentrePort — and with trade and trans- portation as the launch point." Looking ahead, Edmundson shares excitement about technological advance- ments that will allow for drone delivery of cargo. "It would be great to reach more remote communities with medical supplies and products that have a time sensitivity. They're doing some pilot projects in other parts of Canada, and I would love to see that start to play a role at CentrePort," she says. "Drones, AI, and other types of technology that we talk about in our businesses are going to be present in the transportation sector as well." She also anticipates enhanced infra- structure and increased activity through the Port of Churchill. "Most people don't realize it's actually ten days closer to Europe on average by ship from Churchill than it is from the Panama Canal," she says. "We have a huge advantage with that Arctic seaport, which would create lots of opportunities and synergies for compa- nies at CentrePort as well. It's exciting and will definitely impact transporta- tion." She adds that two-thirds of Canada's economy relies on trade, so transpor- tation remains an essential part of the equation. "It's key to our whole country's success and strength to ensure that we have strong transportation connections, proj- ects, and industry. At CentrePort, there's a real strategy and commitment from the community around us to continue to grow that centre of transportation excellence here in Manitoba," Edmund- son says. "My view is that the state of transpor- tation looks bright. I'm very optimistic about how we'll continue to grow and support not only Manitoba but also the country through CentrePort." The full development of CentrePort will result in just shy of an $8-billion boost to Manitoba's GDP.
