ctive Aging Week aims
to celebrate older
adults' contributions
while also promoting
wellness and a healthy
lifestyle.
Active Aging Day falls on Oct. 1
within the broader Active Aging
Week.
Linda Brown, executive director
of Active Aging in Manitoba (AAIM),
says this week is designed to draw
attention to active aging — and
encourage people to get active and
take charge of their health and well-
being.
"It's important to focus on active
aging because there are so many
misconceptions about aging in North
American society. There are a lot of
ageist attitudes that portray older
adults as frail, lonely and unable to
look after themselves," she says.
