FALL 2024 PARADE of HOMES 129 "Trends are natural. Scandinavian colours, naturals, browns are coming back in." – EVELYN JANZ CURTIS CARPETS PHOTO BY DARCY FINLEY "The most popular by volume is vinyl plank," Janz says. "It has a wood look, it's waterproof and a seemingly durable floor. It is durable but it has its limitations." Vinyl plank flooring is widely considered a stylish and versa- tile choice that is also easy to maintain. Its degree of durability is due to being highly resistant to scratches and dents, making it a preferred choice for high-traffic areas and ideal for homes with kids and pets. It's also water-re- sistant, making it highly suited for bathrooms and kitchens. According to Janz, the influence of programs seen on HGTV has had a significant impact on how customers make decisions. "We see it all the time. People will recognize the name brands from HGTV, and they're asking for vinyl plank," she says. "It is a good product, but laminate is some- thing to consider and it has a little extra durability." In Janz's busy home, she's glad she chose the laminate. "I prefer laminate, I have good quality in my home. With three kids, and we had a dog, it has held up so well. It's very hard to scratch, even with a busy lifestyle. With the added new technology now, it's also water resistant, low-maintenance and beautiful wood," Janz says. "We are working with builders to put more laminate — the vinyl planks are a little more demanding; they need a smoother surface. Laminate is more forgiving."
