Travel north through Manitoba's western boreal and pine
forests to The Pas. Indulge your inner pioneer at the
Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival, which features the
World Championship Dog Race. Stay for the crowning
of the King and Queen Trappers, who win their titles by
excelling at tasks trappers perform to survive – everything
from tea boiling to log chopping, muskrat skinning and
moose calling.
Then snuggle into a seat on the VIA Rail train or catch a
flight aboard Calm Air to Churchill on Hudson Bay.
DAY 4 & 5
Asessippi Ski Area & Resort
Your home base up north is the Churchill Northern Studies
Centre, a fully-functional research station. Take part in
classroom lectures on climate change or the culture of the
local people and then venture to see the night sky come alive
with the mesmerizing lightshow of the northern lights.
M u lt i - D ay
The next day, go for a thrilling dogsled ride across the frozen
tundra. Build an igloo and explore the history of the area
with visits to heritage sites and the Eskimo Museum before
heading back to Winnipeg.
