For those who live and work downtown, converted warehouses in the Exchange District are a funky blend of historic features and modern conveniences. >> Whether you're in the market for a starter home, a luxury upgrade or a retirement retreat, Manitoba builders have a condominium to suit your lifestyle — and your budget. There's a good selection of downtown, suburban and country locations. And styles range from apartment and luxury-apartment condos to multiple-storey townhouses and bare land condominiums. The latter are indistinguishable from traditional housing developments. With stand-alone houses, garages and yards, the only difference is that bare land condos have property managers to deal with yardwork, snowclearing and maintenance. Irwin Homes owner Andrew Koop says rising tax, land and development costs make it increasingly difficult for first-time buyers to enter the housing market, and condos offer a practical solution. "Condos are becoming more of a necessity, I would argue." Irwin Homes has two condos in the Fall Parade of Homes. A freestanding bungalow at 56-70 Oak Forest Cres. is the first of 36 bungalows and twostorey homes the company is building in Country Estates at The Oaks, just west of the Perimeter Highway along the Assiniboine River.
