MANITOBA'S TOP 25 EMPLOYERS 2014 9 Manitoba Government Ranks among Top 25 Employers – Three Years in a Row! For the third consecutive year, the Manitoba government was named one of the province's Top 25 Employers, which recognizes employers that offer great places to work. The Manitoba government was also named one of Canada's Top Diversity Employers, awarded to organizations that have exceptional workplace diversity and inclusion programs, for a second year in a row. For the first time, the Manitoba government received the distinction of being selected as one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People. In 2013, more than 3,250 employers across Canada applied for this honour. The Manitoba government was one of two employers in Manitoba and 80 employers nation-wide selected for this prestigious award. Debra Woodgate, Civil Service Commissioner says: "Our most valuable asset and our most significant investment – by far – are our employees. This priority is reflected in a learning policy that encourages learning plans and development conversations with management. Organization and Staff Development, the common training arm of the Civil Service Commission, provides online and in-person learning and development programming to support employee development and the delivery of quality services. The new Diversity and Inclusion Unit also coordinates sessions throughout the year promoting awareness of diversity related issues, and leads initiatives designed to foster inclusion and respect in the workplace for all employees. Eloina Cleodoro is just starting her career with the Manitoba government. She began as a summer student followed by term employment and later she successfully competed for a spot in the management internship program. In her current role as a Policy Analyst, she has been responsible for co-ordinating several government initiatives including Manitoba's participation in the Commuter Challenge and co-ordination of Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship Employee Engagement Forums. Eloina also volunteers her time participating on numerous cross-departmental committees and networks within the Manitoba government. "I feel very fortunate to be working for an employer who respects diversity, supports developmental opportunities for their employees, and provides a respectful and healthy working environment," said Eloina. Crystal McLeod, an Aboriginal woman from Norway House, began her career with the direct role in the promotion of these initiatives," said Crystal.
