J U N O W E E K E V E N T G U I D E • M a r c h 2 4 - 3 0 , 2 0 1 4 5 On behalf of The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), I would like to welcome you to the 2014 JUNO Awards. Canada's biggest musical celebration has received a warm welcome from a province that definitely SPEAKS MUSIC! The JUNO Awards last visited Winnipeg in 2005, and since then the Awards have evolved into a 365-day celebration of Canadian music. Through partnerships with various cultural institutions and tourist destinations, we are able to offer a diverse programming line-up of informative displays and exhibits at museums and galleries, distinct educational programs, rare musical showcases and engaging original content online at JUNO TV which offers more programming than ever before! With the support of our invaluable partners and sponsors along with the commitment of many great artists, we continue to create more opportunities to showcase our home-grown musical talent and engage fans year-round. A heartfelt thanks to all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to bring our celebration to life – especially the entire CARAS Board and staff for their dedication. Thank you to the Province of Manitoba, the City of Winnipeg, and the entire Winnipeg Host Committee, led by Carole Vivier and Kenny Boyce, along with Kevin Walters and Jason Smith, for welcoming us with such enthusiasm. Thanks to Canadian music fans for your continued support of our artists. Thank you also to our long-time colleagues at CTV, with whom we continue to bring a world-class JUNO Awards broadcast to all Canadians. We are the 35th largest country in the world by population but we have the 7th largest music market! This speaks volumes. Canadian musicians are leading the way across multiple genres and our songwriting is globally renowned. Vibrant music scenes like Manitoba's are vital to cultivating that international reputation, helping not only shape our culture, our economy and our history – but our very national identity. Congratulations to all the 2014 nominees! Included in this year's 177 nominees are 80 first-time nominees who represent 19 different genres and 4 technical categories. This demonstrates the multi-faceted identity of Canada's music scene. The JUNO Awards strive to bring Canadians together and celebrate what unites us. I invite all of you to experience everything that JUNO Week 2014 has to offer. Let's make some musical magic together in Manitoba! Sincerely, Melanie Berry President & CEO CARAS/The JUNO Awards & MusiCounts Melanie Berry President & CEO CARAS/The JUNO Awards & MusiCounts
