MAY 2014 • PAGE 7 MissingKids.ca: Together we can bring them home May is Missing Children's Month Every year, police receive more than 40,000 reports of missing children in Canada. While many are found quickly, others have not made it home and their families live every day with unanswered questions and hope for new leads. Over the past few years, the First Nation Voice's readers have shown their investment and dedication to bringing these missing children and young adults home. The response that MissingKids.ca has received to the articles printed each month by the community as well as the missing child's family and friends is incredible. It is important for families to know that no matter how many years have gone by, the community has not forgotten about their loved one, and that the search for answers continues. With each new missing child that is featured, MissingKids.ca receives calls, many times with information about the child featured. Something that seems insignificant on its own can be the missing piece that leads to a child coming home to their family. "It's critical that we keep missing children's stories in the public eye because there's always hope that someone will do the right thing and come forward with new information that could lead to a missing child coming home," says Christy Dzikowicz, Director of MissingKids.ca. "We want to thank First Nation Voice readers for the important role they've played by providing MissingKids.ca with tips about some of the missing youth featured each month." What more can you do? In recognition of Missing Children's Month, MissingKids.ca is asking people to sign up for MissingKidsALERT. Individuals, organizations and businesses can sign up for this electronic public notification service that provides critical information in the search for missing children. "When more people know, more people are looking," says Dzikowicz. For more information or to register, visit missingkidsalert.ca. MissingKids.ca is a program of the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, a charitable organization dedicated to the personal safety of all children. Our goal is to reduce child victimization by providing programs and services to Canadians. To learn more, come visit us at protectchildren.ca.
