2 ManitobaFoodProcessorsAssociation On Wednesday, June 5, 2013 the Manitoba Food Processors Association (MFPA) hosted its seventh annual Industry Excellence Awards. The awards celebrate and recognize the best of Manitoba's unique and flourishing food industry. There were six categories this year, with a surprise special award for Outstanding Achievement.The award recognizes an individual who demonstrates leadership and excellence and inspires others to do their best. It was presented to Mark Zachanowich of Peak of the Market. This year's winners showcase Manitoba's innovative food industry, highlighting novel products that promote healthy living such as Granny's Omega 3 Turkey Breast, Millet King Foods' Red Millet Whole Flour and Progressive Foods' Organic Quick Cooking Barley. "The Industry Excellence awards are meant to honour the great people, products and companies that are a part of our industry, that contribute so significantly to our province," said Dave Shambrock, Executive Director, MFPA. The 2013 MFPA Industry Excellence Awards winners are: • Employer of the Year – Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils • Supplier of the Year – Sandra Carson, PackEdge Designs • Best New Product (Large Business) – Granny's Poultry, Omega 3 Turkey Breast • Best New Product (Small Business) – Red Millet Whole Flour, Millet King Foods of Canada Inc. and Organic Quick Cooking Barley, Progressive Foods Inc. • Company of the Year – Salisbury House Restaurants • President's Award – Hermann Grauer, Nature's Farm The MFPA is a non-profit, industry-run organization that promotes the development of a thriving food processing industry in Manitoba. The association serves more than 290 member companies, ranging from small startup operations to large multinational companies. Manitoba growers, processors, marketing boards, government agencies, retailers and industry suppliers of goods and services all enjoy the benefits of an MFPA membership. Supplier of the Year – Presented to an MFPA Associate Member who has made a significant and worthwhile contribution to the Manitoba food processing industry and to their individual customers. Best New Product – As selected by a panel of judges, this award is open to any MFPA Full Member Company who has successfully launched an innovative product in the past year. This year the award has been divided into two categories: Small Business (sales below $1 million per year) and Large Business (sales exceeding $1 million per year). Company of the Year - Awarded by the MFPA's Board of Directors for significant achievements in one or more areas including product diversification, sales and market growth, sustainable business practices, human resources management and community involvement. President's Award - Chosen by the MFPA's Board of Directors, the President's Award honours an exceptional individual whose efforts have contributed to the Manitoba Food Industry's growth, reputation in the community, and relationships with organizations outside of the province.
