Prepare to be dazzled by displays of jewelry, glass works, photography and sculpture. This summer, paintings by Garth Palanuk will be featured in the "For the Love of Animals" show from July 5 to 30, with an artist reception on July 6. Then from Aug. 1 to 27, art lovers can peruse a collection of photos from India and Canada in the "Travels with Quidam" show. Located at 186 Provencher Blvd., Wayne Arthur Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. neeChi niChe ArT gALLery To view contemporary indigenous artwork, visit Neechi Niche Art Gallery and Store in Neechi Commons at 865 Main St. Summer attractions include a quilt dedication ceremony on July 3, which stems from a community bead-in held in March. The beaded quilt patches honour missing and murdered Indigenous girls and women. Until July 31, a youth exhibition called "Walking Beyond" will also be on display at Neechi Niche, with a community reception on July 3. Living PrAirie museum At the Living Prairie Museum, you can experience an urban oasis in 13 hectares of tall grass prairie. This endangered ecosystem is home to more than 160 types of wild flowers, grasses and shrubs, as well as an array of wildlife. Theme days are held each Thursday in July and August for kids aged four to 10, featuring crafts, hikes, games, stories and presentations. The interpretive centre, located at 2695 Ness Ave., offers displays on prairie history and ecology, along with a great view from the second-storey observation deck. July and August hours run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. grAnT's oLd miLL Learn about Red River Settlement and Metis history right in the heart of St. James, at 2777 Portage Avenue. Here, the Pioneer Citizens Association of St. James-Assiniboia have constructed a replica of Grant's water mill, as it would have been in 1829, on Sturgeon Creek. The working flour mill can be observed in action, and is surrounded by artifacts and information on the story of Cuthburt Grant, a historic Metis leader, and the fur trade. v.gross doLL museum & giFT shoP For collectors and toy lovers alike, V. Gross Doll Museum and Gift Shop is a must-see destination. Located in Warren, this museum is home to more than 3,500 dolls from the 1890s to today. Displayed in two wheelchair-accessible buildings, the collection includes Eaton beauties, character pieces and novelty dolls. The gift shop sells more than 250 dolls in all price ranges, plus local woodcarvings. In addition, the museum showcases vintage toys, trucks and cameras. The V. Gross Doll Museum and Gift Shop is open Sunday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Leo moL sCuLPTure gArden Another favourite summer destination is the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden next to the colourful English Garden at Assiniboine Park. In this outdoor paradise, more than 300 works of the Ukrainian-Canadian master sculptor are on display. His artistic offerings range from bronze and ceramic sculptures to paintings and drawings. The gallery and studio building is open until Labour Day weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the outdoor display is available during regular park hours.
