Wireless Internet Services! Norway House Cree Nation Broadband Inc. (Broadband) is a division of NHCN, is 100% owned by NHCN. Broadband provides wireless broadband high-speed service and local television through digital signals. The entire service will be available to all community households, commercial businesses, health care entities, banks, police and security services, and all education and training institutions. The 1st phase included updating the existing communication towers and building a new tower which was successfully completed in September 2012. The 2nd phase of this project included testing a select few local residences and businesses in the installation and testing of broadband equipment and the internet service delivery over the winter of 2012. The 3rd phase was the new installation of north and south broadband towers in the spring of 2013. The final phase, full community rollout which started late spring in 2013! The NHCN Broadband Inc. office opened on June 27, 2013. Broadband has created jobs and increased economic opportunities for NHCN. Staff of Broadband include; Shawn Scribe, Manager, Richard McKay, Senior Technician, Loverne Menow, Financial Clerk, Ester York Customer Service Representative. Broadband also contracts a team of local installers that range from 4 to 10 installers. NHCN encompasses over 1,450 residences and businesses. To date approximately 700 residences and 15 businesses are connected with Broadband in one form or another! Broadband Wireless Internet Service to NHCN is an incredibly significant move forward for our community, in that it will provide high- speed digital service and connection to the Internet. No more dial up services or internet sticks! NHCN now has the same and better internet service as residents of any Canadian city. One major benefit to the community is that this service has improved education to the community by allowing educators and students' greater access to additional resources via the internet in a timely and real time manner. Health Care providers now have better access to increased and more efficient methods of communicating.
