local culture, authentic cuisine and old-fashioned bonhomie in more
than 20 francophone towns and villages in southern Manitoba. Check out

The largest French population west of Quebec embraces
its history and culture with a passion. In Winnipeg,
St. Boniface is known as the French quarter, but
francophone roots run deep in St. Vital and St. Norbert
as well. Visit the Tourisme Riel (www.tourismeriel.com)
information centre in the old St. Boniface City Hall at
219 Provencher Blvd. to plan a French-immersion tour,
or plan a customized cultural itinerary with Ô Tours
(www.otours.net) which specializes in everything
from canoe trips to culinary tours and Festival du
Voyageur packages.

Outside City Hall, admire the permanent
works in the Jardin de sculptures, then
duck inside to peruse the paintings,
photography and sculptures of La Maison
de artistes visuels francophones
(www.maisondesartistes.mb.ca).
Nearby, Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain
(www.ccfm.mb.ca) at 340 Provencher Blvd.,
houses an art gallery, concert halls and
iconic theatre company Cercle Molière.
The busy centre hosts jazz performances,
improv comedy nights, screenings of new
French movies and other events, and it's
the newest location of popular local eatery
Stella's Café and Bakery (www.stellas.ca).
