Hello Dali! Wind up your melting clocks and break out the moustache wax. Fabulous works by Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali debut in two exhibits opening during Nuit Blanche, the all-night celebration of arts at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (www.wag.ca) Sept. 27. Three of Dali's works — including the four-metre-tall masterpiece Santiago El Grande —are among the 75 paintings in the exhibit Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, along with works by portrait artist Thomas Gainsborough, Lucien Freud and impressionist masters. The exhibit Dali Up Close includes jewelry, photographs and a preparatory painting for the 1945 Alfred Hitchcock thriller Spellbound. The WAG hosts both exhibits until Jan. 25, 2015. Masterworks froM the BeaverBrook art Gallery –sept 27, 2014-Jan 25, 2015 art & ARTs 40 There's more surreal work among the sculptures and drawings of the Inuit Fantastic Art exhibit, on until Oct. 12, and Inuit Sculpture, on until December 2015. The WAG has an extensive permanent collection of captivating Inuit works, as well as European Renaissance, Baroque and contemporary art.
