"If you're a young family starting out, you can buy an en- try-level home on a smaller, back lane lot. If you're more established and are looking for a bigger home that's more luxurious, you can get a lot on one of the lakes, or with a forest view. There's basically something for everyone." Arlt says the established neighbourhoods stimulate new consumer interest, since people can get a sense of what the community is like when they visit the area. "You can see what the hous- es, trails and wetlands look like. That paints a picture for people that allows them to visualize living there — the playground areas and central water fountain are especially impres- sive," he says. "It makes it easier to buy a home when you really know what a community looks like." Hilton Homes owner Spencer Curtis says the well-planned community's popular- ity is only growing. "The area just keeps getting better as it matures," he says. "It's one of the nicest neighbourhoods ever done in Winni- peg due to all the greenspace, striking streetscapes and all the amenities, such as walking trails, playgrounds and wet- lands. The greenspace and paths make for a nice, comfortable feel, while the dif- ferent details that go into all the houses provide interest." Rewniak says it's good to hear positive feedback now that the community's third phase, Bridgwater Trails, is about to unfold. "Of course, Bridgwater Lakes will contin- ue on with 25 new show homes on Lake Bend Road and Appleford Gate, where there'll be a good mix of laneless, laned and visitable lots," he says. "We're looking to carry Lakes' momen- tum over into Trails, where lots have already been sold to builders. Construc- tion will possibly start late this year, or early in 2015. The Town Centre is also coming along well, and will eventually be the hub of the neighbourhood with a variety of services, plus about 1,000 multi-family units." Overall, Rewniak and his colleagues at Manitoba Housing are — to say the least — extremely pleased with how the Bridgwater Neighbourhoods are pro- gressing. "We couldn't be happier," he says. "All in- dications are that the popularity of our Forest and Lakes subdivisions is going to carry over to Bridgwater Trails. That's something that we're really looking for- ward to seeing."
