On Wednesday, September 10th the festi- val kicked off at the Oodena Circle, located at The Forks, with the lighting of the Sacred Fire, dance showcases by hoop dancers and jiggers, as well as the presentation of The Most Outstanding Manitoba Artist presented to APCMA nominee Nelson Little by Deputy Premier Eric Robinson. Highlights from the five-day festival in- cluded the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMA), Oh My Gospel Jamboree, Getting Jiggy With It – Square Dance and Jigging Competition, the International Pow Wow, and the Indigenous Marketplace and Trade Show and a Youth Cultural Education Day. the aboriginal peoples choice Music awards The Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards hit the stage in style as the only Ca- nadian music awards program that honours and showcases Indigenous recording artists. The evening started outside the MTS Cen- tre at the APTN 'Live' From The Red Carpet Event, as the stars came out to shine! The night featured awe-inspiring performanc- es and the presentation of the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards aired live on APTN. Over 900 dancers and 20 drum groups filled the MTS Centre over the two days sharing their gifts with the thousands who came to be see and be part of the festival. More events The Manito Ahbee Festival programming also included the Youth Education Program for over 950 students on September 12, the OMG – Oh My Gospel Jamboree which was held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, the Getting Jiggy With It – Square Dance and Jigging Competition, as well as the Indig- enous Marketplace and Trade Show.
