Weddings in Style As far back as Franca Cesario can remember, !e Marlborough Hotel was the venue for weddings in her community. "Years ago, all large Italian weddings and events were held there," she recalls. So when she married her husband Sel in April 1985, there was no question where the couple's wedding reception for 450 guests would be held. !e Skyview Ballroom, naturally. "Nothing compares to it," says Cesario. "I love those spacious windows and high ceilings in the ballroom." And 30 years later, she is excited to attend her daughter's wedding that is going to take place at !e Marlborough Hotel. !e couple looked around, but when they walked into the ballroom and caught its grandeur, the decision of where to host their wedding reception was quickly made. "It is pure elegance and the cream of the crop of venues in Winnipeg." !e Marlborough Hotel was also the setting for a family christening along with her in-laws' 25th anniversary party. "It's become a tradition in our family." Conference Repeat Food Matters Manitoba hosted its Growing Local Conference at !e Marlborough Hotel for three years running. Executive Director at Food Matters Manitoba, Kreesta Doucette says the Public Education Conference with 35 sessions brings together consumers, farmers, First Nations harvesters and everyone in between for three days of hands-on workshops, discussions and displays all about healthy, sustainable and fair food. Food Matters Manitoba partners with northerners, newcomers, farmers and families and Doucette said the hotel's strong connection with the North, is just one of the reasons the hotel is chosen year-over-year for this conference. Chef Gil Ferreira worked with organizers to source sustainably produced vegetables, eggs, meat, pasta and snacks for the conference. Doucette adds the conference "$lls the hotel" attracting between 350 and 700 people, and no matter what "the hotel sta% are always nice, professional and welcoming." Ethnic Appeal Since 2008, Winnipeg's Filipino community has staged its annual Philippine Independence Ball at the Skyview Ballroom on or around every June 12. Perla Javate, President of the Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba (PHCM), says the formal evening features speeches, entertainment, dinner and dance in the Skyview Ballroom. It's an ideal venue for the 450 guests from the community, including local Filipinos, Canadians and dignitaries. "I like the ballroom, it's the best facility in town," asserts Javate. "I like the high ceilings, the wide windows, the food is good and it's a%ordable." PHCM also enjoys a good relationship with the hotel sta%. "!ey're easy to work with and always so gracious in accommodating our requests." Javate o#en recommends !e Marlborough Hotel. As a result, she has attended dozens of Filipino functions in the venue, including many birthday debuts and quite a few birthday parties for seven-year-olds, events that are highly popular in the community. "We Filipinos enjoy having parties, and the hotel is patronized by our community quite o#en." Congratulations on your 100th Anniversary!
