In 1944, legislation was introduced to help ease the transition of military person- nel into the civilian workforce. Since then, the apprenticeship and certification system has grown to include more than 55 designated trades, and administers programs to over 10,000 active apprentices. The apprenticeship system relies on the ongoing commitment and support of employers, instructors, educators, training providers and government stakeholders. Maintaining part- nerships with our stakeholders ensures a responsive and flexible training model that meets labour market needs and increases the skilled labour workforce in Manitoba. The Awards of Distinction event recognizes and celebrates the achievements of the province's top journeypersons, instructors and employers, who have all demonstrated dedication to the apprenticeship and certification system. There are five categories for which winners have been selected by a nomination com- mittee. It is our honour to introduce the following winners: instructor of the Year: barry Chetyrbok, red river College rural employer of the Year: Derek Woychyshyn, Komfort Kitchen Urban employer of the Year: Dan Mckenzie, Mckenzie electric rural Journeyperson of the Year: rene bissonnette, rosenort Motors ltd.
