Thanks to our province's extreme
temperatures, Manitoba's new
homes consistently rank as
the best in the country when
it comes to energy efficiency,
which contributes to savings.
"Houses are more affordable
here because our building
practices ensure that we have
the most energy efficient homes
in all of Canada," Moore says.
"Not to mention in the last
20 years … we've reduced
greenhouse gas emissions in
Manitoba homes by over 30%.
They're healthier homes too."
However, Moore says costs
have to be controlled. And the
MHBA wants to work with the
City of Winnipeg to find ways to
make buying a home in a new
community more affordable for
consumers.
Moore says new homes in Winnipeg and Manitoba are still more
affordable than our neighbours.
"I think an average home in Regina is about $45,000 more than Winnipeg,
and in Saskatoon it's close to $70,000 more than Winnipeg. And of course
we don't even want to compare ourselves to Calgary," he says.
