"you can do the same thing also with stone, if you wanted to do a stone fea-
ture on the back of an island to add some texture and interest. Those types
of textural ideas are starting
to catch on."
In fact, norcraft is using
reclaimed wood on a bar top
in a new showroom display,
along with a unique custom-made metal component.
"The fabricator is actually going to rust it purposely to create that rusty co-
lour on it and then he's going
to clean it and finish it with an
epoxy so that it doesn't rust
any more but it creates that
patina and that interest," he
says.
a rustic wood feature is also
on display in Irwin homes'
Spring Parade of homes entry
at 4 Willowside Bend in coun-
tryside crossing.
"It's from an actual barn — it's
pretty cool," says Irwin's inte-
rior decorator Krista Koop. "It's
reclaimed wood from a piece
of property that our company
owned, and instead of throw-
ing it away we reused it in
the house. It actually has this
beautiful grey patina to it so
it works well with my colour
scheme."
That colour scheme is in keep-
ing with another warming trend – using different colours on cabinetry and
islands. Koop used norcraft's custom "cloud white" cabinetry and paired it
with a dove-grey kitchen island.
dove-grey lEd pendants over the island, chrome hardware and a mosaic
marble tile backsplash carry the theme in the kitchen and it's complemented
by the eye-catching barn wood in the great room.
