Koop says building microwave ovens into islands or cabinetry
frees up valuable real estate on the countertop. and a built-in
garbage and recycling centre is a convenience that's pretty
and practical.
"That is very popular, I have that — it's a nice pullout so it's not
the typical garbage under the sink," she says.
"It looks like a piece of cabinetry with a cabinet front and you
pull it out and it's usually a double bin, a nice tall plastic bin.
Some people use both for garbage; I use one for garbage and
one for recycling."
Pullout shelves in cupboards and soft-close drawers with full-
extension drawer boxes provide easy access to cookware, cut-
lery and pantry items. and while walk-in and walk-through
pantries are in demand, butler's pantries are gaining ground.
"That one is something that's become a little bit more pop-
ular," Vadacchino says. "It's almost like a small kitchen off a
kitchen, which gives nice storage, nice function. It might be
coupled as a service area to a dining room or something like
that.
"With any type of kitchen design, storage and organization
is always very important, and that really does help because
then you have a lot more of the kitchen space to be used for
the actual use of cooking. you have all of the things that you
need at hand."
