58 From softball to Olympic speed skating and curling, Manitobans have made their mark on the sports world. The Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame Museum in Morden contains uniforms and memorabilia including a special nod to 11 Manitobans who played in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. Formed during the Second World War, the league's stars included Virden's Dorothy (Dottie) Ferguson Key, who is said to have inspired the character played by Madonna in the movie A League of Their Own. The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, located in the Sport for Life Centre in Winnipeg's Exchange District, preserves and celebrates baseball, soccer, weightlifters, curlers and swimmers. A feature exhibit on display until June celebrates 100 years of Manitoba hockey history, from the Stanley Cup to the Olympics. (The Winnipeg Falcons brought home the first Olympic gold medal in hockey in 1920.) The home of the Winnipeg Jets, the MTS Centre on Portage Avenue, also houses the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame, with photos and memorabilia saluting players, coaches and builders. > mbhof.ca > halloffame.mb.ca > mbhockeyhalloffame.ca sporting life MANITOBA SPORTS HALL OF FAME MANITOBA HOCKEY HALL OF FAME Complimentary Wi-Fi & Hot Breakfast Enjoy great value in downtown Winnipeg.
