CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE In eastern Manitoba, Falcon Ridge Ski Hill's terrain park and ski slopes come with spectacular views, along with live music and dining at the chalet and full-service cabins that include bonfire pits. In the North, Mystery Mountain Winter Park, just minutes from Thompson, is a growing concern with 18 alpine runs and a snowboard half-pipe, as well as snowshoe and cross-country ski trails. Close to Winnipeg, zoom down six runs at Stony Mountain Ski Area, or do a little night skiing at Springhill Winter Sports Park, which offers 10 ski and snowboard runs, a race run and a terrain park off Hwy 59. > asessippi.com > skivalley.ca > holidaymountain.com > falconridgeski.com > mysterymountain.ca > skistony.com > springhillwinterpark.com POLE to POLE Cross-country ski trails cover every scenic scenario imaginable, from forest and river trails to urban paths, including Thompson's expansive Millennium Trail and more than 11 kilometres of groomed ski trails in The Pas. One popular loop is lit up for night skiing along Flin Flon's 30-kilometre urban trail system, and you ski under lights at Brandon's Wheat City Golf Course, Dauphin's Vermillion Park and Winnipeg's Windsor Park Nordic Centre in St. Boniface. Enjoy five kilometres of trails in Assiniboine Park, ski along the La Salle River in La Barriere Park or head to Beaudry Provincial Park, just west of Winnipeg, where one of the five Assiniboine River Trails is tailored for skiers accompanied by a dog on a leash or kids on a sled. You'll find warmup shelters along trails at virtually every popular destination — including Clearwater Lake in the North, Grand Beach, the Brandon Hills Wildlife Management Area, Birds Hill Provincial Park, and along the seven-kilometre run at Alf Hole Goose Sanctuary in Whiteshell Provincial Park. The Whiteshell trail system links up to Biathlon Manitoba's home base and Falcon Trails Resort, where you can kick your ski adventure up a notch with the Falcon Trails Biathlon Experience. Get expert instruction on target shooting at the rifle range and take an Olympian run on 23 kilometres of ski trails that wind along lakes and into rugged Precambrian Shield country. > ccsam.ca
