4 Manitoba aerospace Week May 25 - 29, 2015 M anitoba's aerospace industry has been building a better future for over 100 years. From the earliest beginnings of flight in Western Canada and the opening of the North to some of today's most advanced manufacturing, repair, overhaul, testing and certification and space technologies, Manitoba's aerospace companies deliver superior aerospace products and services across Canada and around the world. With our commitment to supporting our employees and our communities, we also build better futures right here at home. Collaboration and relationship building is at the heart of the Manitoba Aerospace Association. We bring organizations together so we can improve as companies and grow stronger as an industry. It is a signature characteristic of our aerospace cluster that is often noted by visitors, customers and collaborators from across the globe. In this past year we have focused on opportunities for collaboration on research and development, both across the aerospace community and between sectors like aerospace, ground transportation and biomedical. We created the Manitoba Aerospace Research and Technology Committee (MARTC) to lead the implementation of our Technology Roadmap, worked with the Industrial Technology Council and the Vehicle Technology Centre to support a new NRC facility for Manitoba, and agreed to host the regional office for the new Consortium for Aerospace Research and Innovation Canada (CARIC). We also worked with our educational partners to provide more opportunities and build better futures for Manitoba learners. We created new endowment funds with the University of Manitoba and Red River College and increased the value of our six annual scholarships and awards. Our association, like our industry, continues to grow. We welcomed a number of new members this year — Canadian Propeller, OIC Precision Labs, and Precision ADM — and we have seen our local companies attracting the attention of larger, multi-national aerospace companies looking to invest in Manitoba. B/E Aerospace, a global leader in the design and manufacture of aircraft cabin interiors, has recently come to Canada through the acquisition of EMTEQ, and we are pleased to welcome them into the Association. During Aerospace Week, we celebrate the success and the future of a Manitoba industry that keeps the world moving, provides rewarding careers for our community, and helps build a strong economy. This year we are also celebrating the support our members give to building stronger communities. Working together makes us stronger, in business, around the world, and right here at home.
