06 FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015 June 6 – July 5 • Assiniboine park Zoo (www.assiniboineparkzoo.ca) is home to seven polar bears — including orphaned siblings Blizzard and Star, who were rescued in northern Manitoba last year — in the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre and the Journey to Churchill exhibit. See northern species such as snowy owls, Arctic fox and a new baby musk ox, and bring your camera to snap the bears from an underwater viewing area while they swim in their giant pool. Seasonal exhibits include the Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden and the Australian Walkabout, where you can enter an enclosure for an up- close look at kangaroos and emus. • Assiniboine park (www.assiniboinepark.ca) has acres of greenspace and unique attractions, including the Pavilion Gallery Museum, where you can learn about Winnipeg's namesake bear, Winnie the Pooh. Check out the magical Nature Playground, the duck pond, the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden and much more. • Take a hike at urban nature oasis Fortwhyte Alive (www.fortwhyte.org) to see deer, waterfowl, songbirds and bison. Register online for the Bison Safari tour to experience a close encounter with North America's largest land animal. • A historic gathering place at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, The Forks is an eternally popular social hub. Shop for art, antiques and handcrafted goods and get a taste of Manitoba cuisine at dozens of shops and restaurants. Check out the bike path and skateboard park and take in special events such as the 33rd annual Kidsfest, on today and tomorrow. The Pride Winnipeg Festival wraps up with the two-day Pride Festival at The Forks June 13-14. • From the Forks, stroll across the Esplanade Riel pedestrian bridge to the French community of St. Boniface. Show your pride The 10-day Pride Winnipeg Festival wraps up with the two-day Pride Festival at The Forks, from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday, June 13 and Sunday June 14. Sip a Queer Beer from Winnipeg's Half Pints Brewing Company, check out artisans, food vendors, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers KidZONE and live music on the mainstage. Admission is free.
