For her, this day marks the anniversary of the worst news a parent can receive. On July 1, 2009, the body of 17-year-old Cherisse Houle was found in a creek about 18 kilometres west of Winnipeg in the Rural Municipality of Rosser, Manitoba. The area is next to a gravel road off Provincial Road 221 approximately four kilometres from the community of Rosser. Cherisse had been reported missing to the Winnipeg Police Service five days prior to the discovery of her body. "It's been six years since someone stole Cherisse away from us," says Barbara Houle, Cherisse's mother. "We think of her every day, miss and love her. It's a dark journey no one should go through but the light at the end of the tunnel is where she will be. Till we see each other again my baby, love you with all my heart. Mom Gone but will never be forgotten." Although she struggled with addiction, Cherisse was making strides to provide a better future for her then 18-month-old son, getting involved in programs at Ka Ni Kanichihk and talking about becoming a social worker. Project Devote, the joint task force with the Winnipeg Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police which focuses on missing and murdered exploited persons' investigations, took over the Cherisse Houle investigation in 2012. Investigators are asking for anyone in the community who has information about Cherisse Houle or her murder to contact them on the Project Devote tipline at 1-888- 673-3316. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can call Manitoba CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Project Devote
