See ad page 15 location: 680 Harrow St. p: 204-360-7905 f: 204-360-6187 w: www.hydro.mb.ca/museum b SOCIETY DALNAVERT MUSEUM (PHS) MANITOBA HISTORICAL Built in 1895 for Sir Hugh John Macdonald (former Premier of Manitoba), this beautifully restored home is one of Western Canada's finest examples of Queen Anne Revival Architecture. It is a designated Provincial and National Historic Site. The new Visitors' Centre features a well-appointed gift shop, auditorium space for meetings and events and free parking. The Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday year-round, hours change seasonally. Interpretive tours provided daily. Group tours should be booked at least one week in advance. Last tour 60 minutes (1 hour) before closing. The grounds contain statues of Queen Victoria, La Vérendrye, statesmen and poets. location: Broadway and Osborne b Manitoba Historical Society Dalnavert Museum Guided tours daily July 1 to September long weekend, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. every hour. Free admission. p: 204-945-5813 b The Golden Boy was sculpted in Paris in 1918 and is a 5.25 m/17.2 ft, 1,650 kg/3,640 lb statue sheathed in 24 karat gold which stands atop the dome of the Legislative Building. It faces the north where his province's future lies. The torch in his right hand points to economic development; the sheaf of wheat in his left arm represents agriculture. Government House is the official private residence of the Lieutenant- Governor of Manitoba. It was built in 1883 by the Dominion Government and transferred to Manitoba's jurisdiction in 1885 symbolizing the completion of Manitoba's parliamentary political structure. location: Adjacent to the Manitoba Legislative Building on Kennedy St. Louis Riel Statue, created by sculptor Miguel Joyal and commissioned by the Manitoba Métis Federation, is located on the south grounds of the Legislative Building facing the Assiniboine River. The statue commemorates Riel's contribution to the development of Canadian Confederation and his role, and that of the Métis, as founders of Manitoba. MANITOBA SPORTS HALL OF FAME & MUSEUM In addition to arrangements of artifacts, memorabilia and fascinating temporary exhibits, it is also home to The Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame. This is the place to experience the mosaic of Manitoba's long and luminous sports heritage and our finest moments of athletic achievement.
