Fish the derby that supports the emergency medical assistance fund of the same name - the Billy Beal Ice Fishing Derby on Whitefish Lake near Swan River on Mar. 19. First prize is $10,000 and there are over 30 more prizes and family activities to enjoy. Named after the first black pioneer to settle in Swan River in 1906, and organized by four area Lions clubs: Swan River, Bowsman, Minitonas and Birch River.

Hit the slopes at Asessippi Ski Area and Resort (pages 102 & 108) near Inglis. They have 25 downhill ski runs complete with chair lifts, and three downhill snowboarding runs. Night tubing, skiing and snowboarding are offered. Enjoy the possibilities, guided by lessons and rentals. Eat, visit the pub and gift shop, and go cross country skiing nearby in Rivendell too.

Enjoy snowmobiling this winter by connecting with members of the five large snowmobile clubs in the Parkland area. They are each having a Snowmobile Poker Derby this season. The dates for three of these fun events are: Feb. 12 - Lenswood; Feb. 26 - Bellsite; Mar. 3 - Inglis. Learn about these events and other opportunities to snowmobile in the region over more than 1,000 kms of developed trails.
